Thakoon at Kenmore Live Studio

Tonight was the 3rd installment of Chicago's very own fashion reality series So You Wanna Be a Designer, hosted by Debbie Jagel and Issac King. The show is conveniently filmed right down the street from my house at Wells and Huron at The Kenmore Live Studio. Monica Dimperio of The Midwasteland was a guest judge and Thakoon made a very special guest appearance and showed four of his own looks.
Thakoon has worn many hats on his way to fashion stardom. He started out as a business major at BU and then made the unusual leap to fashion writer at Harpers Bazaar, before finally enrolling in Parsons and launching his line several years later to much fanfare. Michelle Obama wore his dress when her husband accepted his nomination in 2008.
Thakoon's clothes use feminine detailing and flourishes in ways that are unexpected and not overtly girly.

Here is his take on moccasins with heels.
This look by Jessica Davis was the strongest of the evening (even though the craftsmanship was not quite there) Both this and the second strongest look by Anna Hovet were deemed the lowest by the judges. It just goes to show that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
